I love music that makes you want to dance. Let me take that further, I love music that makes you want to drink and dance. Bands that you can’t help but shake a tail feather are top notch in my book. Enter, TJ Lazer. For those of you who don’t know TJ Lazer is an eight piece funk/rock band, designed to make you leave your seat. They recently released their album Get Lifted and to write the review I had to turn it off to keep myself from moving. Just to keep myself still long enough to write, I had to write in silence. It moves you to move.

Get Lifted is an album that would fit perfectly into a summer block party. Windows in the house down, sound system blaring this wonderful sound for all to enjoy.

“No Color” the first track on the album, starts off slowly with an excellent blues guitar riff, before jumping into a great full band sound that leaves no gaps. There is nothing left wanting once the full band is playing.

“Methodical Woman” begins with some fantastic percussion. They used bongos. Who the hell uses bongos anymore? I love it! Then slowly the guitar line picks up and before you know it we are off to the races.

The title track “Get Lifted” maybe my favorite of the whole album. TJ Lazer completely connect with Funk legends on this track.  Sounding like something that would have made Motown move back in the day, this track brings it.

If having fun, dancing, enjoying life are things you just do not enjoy then I would recommend against this album for you. You had better just stay away. Now, if you love life. If music can make you move in ways you did not know were possible. If you want to have fun and give yourself up to a local band that knows how to make you get down, then do yourself a favor and check this album out. It is on iTunes for only $9.90. Get this album, get a case of beer, and invite a few friends over. You won’t regret it.
