UPCOMING SHOWS: Shallow Palace, Death on Two Wheels, Alexander and the Grapes at Radio Room
Those of you who know me know I have seen my fair share of live shows (especially since starting the website), and all too often it becomes easy to get complacent or take live music for granted. However, rest assured I’m sufficiently pumped for this coming Friday, when our hometown heroes in Shallow Palace bring along some of the SouthEast’s finest to share the stage with them.
Shallow Palace are no stranger to us here at the site and are still gigging hard behind their recent split 10″ with Charleston’s Sleepy Eye-Giant. For those of you who don’t know them, the quintet plays a loud version of Rock’N'Roll that borrows as much from loud bands of the 60′s and 70′s as much as it does modern Indie Rock. If you asked me to describe them I’d probably fall short and just hand you a disc so you could tell me! But no matter how you want to categorize them, one things for sure: the band never disappoints live.
Along with them are Favorite Gentlemen act, Death On Two Wheels. The band while seeming slightly out of place on the FG roster, should definitely find new fans here as they are the kind of band I can see thriving in a good ‘ol rock ‘n’roll dive. Sounding at times like Motorhead taking on Thin Lizzy (yeah wrap your head around that!), I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what kind of carnage they bring with them. I can tell just by watching a few videos, they’re a band one needs to see live.
Opening up will be New Granada Records band Alexander and the Grapes, who I can luckily do justice and say they’re an Indie Rock band. No sub-genres, no hyphens, no fuss. Fans of early Death Cab For Cutie, Snow Patrol or We Were Promised Jetbacks will definitely want to get there early to check them out.
The show starts at 10PM (Punk Rock Time) and is $3.
